What To Expect At Your Appointment
Students are asked to bring a copy of their high school (or college) marks and courses. Most students have access to a 'high school planner' from MyBlueprint. A transcript or report cards will also work. Sometimes, a resume can also be helpful.
Generally, there are usually two appointments with a student (and their parents). Some students are more comfortable to meet without a parent present - some prefer to have their parent with them. I am happy either way the student will be most comfortable.
The first meeting is about 1-1.5 hours and at that time, I will ask a lot of questions, trying to get to know the student and we will also review their courses and marks from previous classes. If the student is in grade 10 or 11, we will also review courses for the following year at that time (they may need refining after our second meeting, but usually we can get a pretty good idea during our first meeting). I will also walk the student through the application process for post secondary (both college and university - depending on the preference of the student) and will also speak about scholarship opportunities as well.
I will provide the student with two assessments to complete (one in paper form and one online) that the student will do on their own time (there is no rush to do this - I am flexible with their timeline as I know some have a heavier course loads at different times).
When the assessments are complete, I will create a report with the results and then schedule a follow up meeting where we will go over the result and develop a plan. This meeting also lasts about 1.5 hours - sometimes longer if there are lots of questions to be answered.
Sometimes, I will meet with the student and family a third time if there are specific questions about post secondary programs, osap, scholarships etc... (that is completely up to the student and the family).
